During his sermon Imam Kathrada said, “Yes, Islam, that is, Allah, who legislated Islam for us, has ordered us and commanded us to hate, to reject, and to detest the disbelievers. And here, let me just pause for a second. If I hate broccoli, does it mean that I am going to smash it all up and not allow anybody to eat it?”
This imam cannot be dismissed as an extremist, for his calls for hate and annihilation of Kafirs (non-Muslims) are derived directly from the teachings of Allah in the Koran and the most authentic Hadiths. Kafirs are called the worst of all creatures and are to be killed wherever they are found.
There is no Golden Rule – “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” – in this pronouncement because the worldview of Islamic politics is a dualistic one, where the world is divided on into the community of Islamic believers (the umma) on one side and all other non-believing Kafirs on the other.
The Koran states many times (see doctrinal sources below for a few examples), that the community of Believers is superior to the community of Kafirs and not to befriend them. Thus, Political Islam promotes an Islamic supremacism, antipathy and violence towards Kafirs.
The imam is simply repeating the 1,400 year-old doctrine and jurisprudence of Political Islam. History strongly suggests that these doctrinal teachings and threats be taken seriously. Many Islamic youth around the world are being indoctrinated every day by imams such as Kathrada, while we insist on remaining ignorant of the peril of the politics of Islam and its consequences.
We should never accept the division of the world into Muslims and Kafirs, who are to be treated as a species less than human. We should educate ourselves about the politics of Islam, how it affects us and what we can do about it. We should not remain ignorant.
